3 Tips For Getting Started with Landscape Photography
Dec/110
Landscape photography is a whole different ballgame to portrait or wedding photography, and I’m not just talking about the subject which you’re shooting.
The skills you need to know in Photoshop change (no longer trying to get rid of wrinkles now you’re trying to wrap your head around HDR), the equipment you need is different (no more nifty 50 mm time to start looking for a zoom if not a telephoto), and even your composition is going to change.
So what’s the best way to get started in landscape photography?
For starters you’ll want to do a bit of research on composition. It’s always a good idea to never crop your photo when taking the shot, leave that for post production. There’s been more times then not that I’ve cropped a shot when taking the image, then get home and realize that when I want to print the shot I have to crop off some of what made the shot so great.
The next thing is you’re likely going to want to invest in a wide angled lens. Most landspace photography will require you to stand back and take in the big image. Whether it’s mountains, a body of water or a city scape, a wide angle lens will do your proud in these situations.
Finally, familiarizing yourself with the exposure, ISO and F-stop settings on your camera body is a must. HDR photography is big in the landscape world and for this to work properly you need to take one shot at perfect exposure, one under exposed and one over exposed and then overlap them all in photoshop.
This can be a challenge, but with a tripod and a solid understanding of how your camera body works it’s not so tough. The video below will serve as a solid introduction to HDR photography for landscape shots.

Top 20 Questions to consider when buying a digital camera
My Top 20 key questions on buying a digital camera.
1. How many "megapixels" / Resolution?
After all, at least for me, must obtain the highest resolution of your money can buy at the time of purchase. Period.
2. Who made the lens?
Most devices give you an idea of where the goal was made by looking at the front of the lens. If the lens of your camera is a reputable company like Leica, Zeiss, Canon, etc. .. Lens quality is one of the most important factors to consider, especially if used for commercial, technical or scientific.
3. Will I need interchangeable lenses? How many are available for the device specific photo in mind?
Have the possibility of interchangeable lenses gives you the freedom to experiment with different focal length. Although some P & S cameras (point and shoot) digital SLR can not compete with a generous zoom range for a lens system are not interchangeable.
Also note the number of vessels available for use with specific camera for reasons of flexibility. You can cover virtually all the "zoom" with interchangeable lenses of modest ranges zoom in the lens systems are not interchangeable or P & S cameras
4. Do you have a zoom capability? What is the scope?
Almost all applications listed above have some sort of zoom (telephoto) or posterior (wide), especially if they have room to move the object you are photographing.
For landscapes, wide angle views are common and attractive, while the zoom in the details is a breach and complements the wide-angle shots.
Wedding and events, you need a zoom, as there will be times when you are limited by the shooting area and have a hard time moving. It's good to know you can do all kinds processing, without leaving your position.
A good zoom will give you the efficiency and versatility of your photos, so my suggestion is to opt for more long range, you can get (usually a 7X to 10X for a point and shoot).
Also note the speed of the zoom or out, it will be a factor if you shoot events like weddings. You do not understand that "decisive moment" in a poor zoom speed.
5. Is willing to capture images rough?
Many photographers will tell you need this camera if you want large prints of your photos. While this is correct, the main reason laying want is for the benefits it will … Pure total control of your photos … exposure, color, metadata, HDR and much more.
6. "I can connect an external flash?
Having an external flash can give you the power and creative freedom to light your subjects as you wish.
You can connect your digital camera all kinds of lighting equipment that gives you more options and versatility. This comes in the form of a shoe or a PC-Sync socket.
If your camera does not have this function, there is still hope, said slave flash and accessories sold by other companies in different flavors that will also do the same job more or less.
7. Do you have a tripod?
Some pictures of the most beautiful I've seen are undoubtedly made with a tripod, so it is a necessity if you do this kind of photography.
The design of the plans of "light" in a marriage, still images and product life, the art studio and plans of … We all need a tripod to successful execution … then guess what happens if you do not have a tripod? … You can not effectively use the tripod!
8. It has automatic or manual?
It is not immediately obvious why this is necessary especially if you're starting out in photography. But if you is like me … A total control freak when it comes to cameras … and you really want to express your creative side, is really a must have.
9. Can filters to connect? and what size filter?
Creative expression through the special effects is one of the many reasons that mocks photos and interesting, and experiment with the filters is a creative exercise, you should try with photos, especially if you are a beginner.
Remember to ask if the camera particular digital you can plan for handful of filters and apply the filter size. (To avoid buying the right of the filter with the appropriate filter size) Note that most DSLR should be able to handle the filters as most of the objectives that have a built-in filter thread on the lens.
Most of P & S cameras (point and shoot) digital thread is not usually an integrated filter and may need special accessories to make what you should check to be sure.
Again, there are numerous third-party accessories that you could buy to fit filters to the P & S digital cameras do not have this provision. I will discuss all about this in a future post so watch it. (Or subscribe to my ad (powered by e-mail) to find when it occurs.
10. "I can update the firmware?
The good thing about some digital camera makers is to continue to improve their digital cameras even after the sale for you … This comes as a firmware update.
Usually, this means an improvement on one or more features of a camera. Make sure the camera you intend to buy a simple way to update your firmware. This form is just a simple download page manufacturer's website (to find and dial now) or a free CD-ROM.
Another caution – be sure to consider whether a reduction is possible or available with digital camera … Why is need for a discount you ask? … Because, you may want to reinstall a previous firmware … if they do not like the results update firmware.
Sometimes there is a function to be removed by the update that you have read and I've decided you want to keep this function instead of a lot of trivial update the new firmware. (Yes, I have experienced personally.)
11. Are there extra benefits or software to go with?
Some people ignore the fact that you can save money simply by doing a simple calculation. Did you know you can actually get the digital camera for more cheaper if you study the bids and offers of market?
If you buy a digital camera and comes with software that you can use … as Photoshop, Elements, or any other image editing software other others elsewhere, then you have already saved a little money you would have spent. Some dealers launch many extras … If you simply ask.
Always try to do all these things they just bought any so if not – camera bags, such as lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, tripod, lens cleaner, etc … Believe me I have just bought these things if you do not ask about the case. What you got to lose? Just ask. Would you believe I actually reduced my expenses from one camera to buy up to 30%? Ask away.
12. Is there local support in your area?
Find the answer to it will give you a great advantage in the long term. Do not sleep last night because it feels better than the added security – which if something is wrong with your digital camera for repair can take time to review?
Not knowing when your unit will be repaired (or if it happened to a repair shop away) is one of the worst feelings you can have a photographer especially if you're in the middle of a photo shoot or project.
13. What kind of guarantee do you have? Worldwide / Countrywide?
If you travel a lot is good to know that the country or, even better – a guarantee in the world can get your camera steady anywhere. Always turn the guarantee card and paste it into your camera bag.
14. It has the ability to take video and audio?
I know, most digital SLRs do not have this feature. However, some non-interchangeable lens DSLR it. This is a feature very useful if you're in a project or a photo shoot and want to save a document or proceeding for a moment or idea you have trouble remembering and even writing. It is always a good idea to make a backup P & S camera that function.
The things you could do with audio clips and video limited to a photo shoot by your imagination … interviews, documentation, funny jokes, training procedures, bloopers, etc.
15. Is there manual white balance?
The white balance is one of the most interesting digital cameras. It's fun and fascinating to work. Having this option affects how photography for fun-o-meter square. In future posts I will discuss in detail the white balance to make sure stay tuned.
16. How is sensitive to infrared?
If you intend to make infrared photos or enter the exciting world of fine art infrared photography, then I want to know if your digital camera can do.
TIP: There is a simple way to test the sensitivity of your digital camera using a characteristic infrared common – a TV remote control. For P & S, which can point the remote at the lens and measure the brightness of light is at a distance. That will give you an idea of sensitivity of your digital camera to infrared. For digital SLR that will take pictures of the LED and experiment a bit or just search Google or model particular device you have in mind for the experiences of others and thinking about it.
17. What is ISO? Is it controlled manually?
The ISO is a term that refers to the film sensitivity to light. digital camera around the world, refers to the sensitivity of the camera's electronic sensor Digital Camera ISO used in the film.
The higher the ISO sensitivity and faster camera can store a specific amount of light.
High ISO is useful to take better pictures in dark places … as in a church or at night. The higher the ISO value, more information can be captured a dark scene.
A warning – note the amount of noise in this particular camera, higher ISO. Some people like and others not. Again, do not be afraid to ask or investigate the noise characteristics of your camera model in mind to see if this is the right choice for you.
18. What high or low you can adjust the shutter speed? What aperture settings are minimum and maximum?
parameters and the opening Shutterspeed are the basic mechanisms that lead to the camera and the amount of light that is exposed by the film or image sensor.
Use shutter speed in scenes of high action and avoid camera shake and slow shutter speed used for the purposes of movement and the lamp or exhibitions. You can check these numbers in the sites I gave in Part 1. You can see the technical specifications of a particular device.
A bulb or "T" is a good feature to have because you can take positions for long periods of close periods. Another feature is that if your camera has a remote control to operate the bulb or how to "T". This gives you the ability to take photographs without your camera and add to the "scene".
In order openings, a small (very small aperture) allows you to have a greater depth of field so that your images are crisp, near and far from a large aperture (of aperture opening), where the images have a depth of field and "selectively concentrated.
19. Has some sort of image stabilization?
The new cameras come as talk of this feature. In other words, image stabilization is a mechanism built into the body of the lens or camera (According to the manufacturer and its application) that basically prevents obtaining blur when shooting in low light or when using a long lens or a telephoto lens. Have this function can be the difference between a blurry picture (also known as no picture!) for use.
20. How far can focus on it? macro capabilities?
The closer the camera can focus … the size of the image of an object, you can take in relation to the size the image of the final photo … and size of the object image … you can get more information. If you are taking photographs of small objects such as flowers and small details making it a must-have.
That's it. Ugh.
Do you really going to all these questions? … Of course not, but even if you study and meditate in the middle of them … and take time … I promise you one thing that will surely bring …
You …
much smarter!
when he began to ask these questions … ergo you will be in a better position to decide what to buy digital camera … Because you are now armed with the most powerful tool anyone can have
the power of information!
Anyway, I hope you find the greatest value to those questions that many of my friends and to get the camera right shot.
Have fun!

if im into photography as a hobbie (or potentially more)i dont HAVE to buy a slr do i?
in my opinion AND OTHERS, my photography is really good, especially for the camera i use..(point and shoot) and i feel i dont NEED a slr..people cannot tell if i use slr or bridge or point and shoot sometimes, so should i just carry on…The photography work i do usually are
landscape
travel
weddings/portraits, etc etc….and like i said all clients/friends like the work…
any tipsor advice will be great though x
DSLR’s have virtually no shutter lag, paramount for a camera used to photograph wedding receptions. Try to shoot a flower toss by the bride with a P & S and you’ll see what I mean. For the professional, instantaneous shutter response is a MUST. DSLR’s also have much better sensors than a P & S…. and the lenses on a P & S are not up to pro standards when it comes to sharpness corner to corner and distortion. Keep in mind that your friends are probably not experts in photography and are, PERHAPS, biased in their opinions. You can post examples for critique purposes, or go to someone who IS and HAS BEEN a professional photographer for several years. That is the ONLY way you will get an honest unbiased opinion. Show him or her 11 x 14 examples of your work… the standard portfolio size.

Understanding stock photography
Stock Photography can be a sect often overlooked digital photography. Although, portraits, nature, abstracts etc., are better known by the community of photographers that I do not mean that stock photography is not as important. What is the photo review so different from any other type of photography is the means to request that the images are presented. Other types of photos such as portraits and macro can not have a definitive analogy the location of these photos. A portrait can convey the quality of being a "portrait" any other use out-of art itself. Instead, pictures are clear and can even cross the line in a job instead of calling a type of photography. A correct explanation of the gallery is necessary to continue the race.
First, it is important to know where the term comes from photographs. This is a term invented, more commonly, Internet, and most of the time trying to sell and purchase the photos on a website pictures. A photo site is a place that everyone can register and upload their photos for buyers to purchase their photos. You guidelines can earn money based on what the site may have. A variety of stock photos of people for most jobs related reasons. The regular sites most popular pictures are graphic designers, publishers, magazines and advertisers. You can use the image of the way they want, they can change the image or leave it completely changed.
To learn how to succeed in business, independent image bank you need to know what buyers want and how it differs ordinary photography. According to employment practices, buyers Digital photos are for specific purposes that make it easily accessible and modifiable. They may need to macro photography, landscape, and industry issues, but has just presented a little different than what most are used.
Advertisers may need picture to self-directed local convincing as easily convey what they are trying to sell. Designers want digital pictures that are easy to change settings without complex and shading. In addition, many jobs need several different versions of the same image in order to find someone who will do justice project. Genealogy photos the same subject, but presented from different angles and camera positions. For a more comprehensive tutorial on how to take pictures will show href = "http://www.digitalphotojob.com" tutorials> and use in digital photography.
This is the basic explanation for this stock is photography. It may seem simple, but learning the intricacies of how to make profitable digital photos can take some time. If you are looking to pursue a independent career and do what your own, then spend time, work hard and have something to show for it.

Photography?
Do anyone know about DVD Master Course for photography?
Like from basics of camera anatomy to shooting wedding, landscape, portrait. A DVD that has collections of technique and tutorial.
Well what are some book you would recomend then, is there like an encyclopedia book of photography?
Well I bought 800 dollars worth of camera work and production course for Film and Cinema, and I sure have learn so much from it. Also am a student still in high school, so am getting ready to put together my portfolio of painting, films, and photography. I like to learn as much as possible before entering into a film school.
DVDs are way overpriced. For the cost of a Photography DVD you could own a library of photography books.

best lens for canon rebel xti?
I am really into photography, but I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to the equipment. I have a rebel xti 10.1 mega, and need better lenses. what are the best lenses for portraits, weddings, and landscapes? I don’t expect 1 lens for all 3.
once you start getting into good lens you can start spending a lot more money than you did for your camera. I’m trying to split the difference between kit lens (inexpensive) and a pro lens ($5000 for a 50mm prime)
For landscapes, I have a canon 17-40 f4 L. This is a very sharp lens…. not sure what it is going for these days, but it somewhere between $600-700 I think
For portraits, I recently purchased a 50mm f1.4 prime. Not have a zoom take a little getting used to and the lens does have a hard time focusing, but it takes great images…. I think it was around $250
I agree with photoace that what you have is great for getting started…. get the feel with what you have before deciding to sink $1000′s in to lens

landscape photography aperture

Explain what Aperture and Shutter Speed is in digital photography?
I need to write an explanation of shutter speed and aperture in photography.
Also need to explain how Aperture effects an image taken in portrait and landscape modes.
Have to give an explanation and some examples of when adjusting shutter speed would be useful.
Aperture is the lens opening, which controls how much light comes through the lens.
Shutter speed is how long the shutter exposes the sensor/film to the incoming light.
The aperture, along with the lens focal length and sensor size, affects the amount of area in focus in front of and behind your subject, called “depth of field.”
Depth of field is important because of those times you may want a large area in focus (a landscape shot) or a shallow area in focus (say, for a portrait). A wide aperture or big lens opening makes for shallow depth of field, while a small aperture makes for more depth of field or more area in focus.
As for adjusting the shutter speed, it could be useful for stopping action (a fast shutter speed) or for creating special effects (motion-blurred water) or to achieve a particular aperture to get the depth of field you want (shutter speed and aperture together control the exposure. Change one variable and you have to change the other).
So, for your homework, you now have to hope I told you the truth about everything or you can copy and take the risk that everything I said or some of what I said is a lie…Or you could just double-check what I said and then re-write it into your own words.
What Is Aperture priority Vs Shutter priority…?

Can anyone explain why my ’6 colour photo printer’ seems to drink ‘yellow’ ink?
It’s an HP Photosmart D7160. I’m very happy with it as a general printer – and the B/W doc printing seems cheapish on black ink. I seem to be getting through 3 times as many ‘yellow’ cartridges as any other colour.
I don’t print a lot of ‘sepia’ inflected photos – if anything I could understand it if I ran out of the blue shades – I do photograph a lot of seascapes.
Dont know much about printing ,but it seems yellow is being mixed to tone down the other colors , as yellow is the lightest
