Who Collects Carte De Visite Photographs?
Carte de visites are paper photographs that were wildly popular in the mid-19th century, but were still made into the 1900s. They are black and white prints but the older CDVs have a distinct cream-sepia color to them. The cabinet card and later photographic processes made them obsolete, so the question remains, who still collects carte de visite photos?
CDVs are collected by historians of early photography or of history in general. Photographers love to learn as much as they can about their craft and learning its history hands-on is very helpful. History buffs collect carte de visites because they love being immersed in the times. Civil War historians love to collect photos of soldiers and CDVs are generally a cheaper alternative than say tintypes or daguerreotypes. It is exciting for someone interested in history to know that they own something that was at the time a brand new technology that was cherished by friends and relatives alike. Historians study every detail of carte de visites including captions, backmarks, tax stamps, signatures, intricate designs, and of course the images themselves.
Even those not particulary interested in the history itself collect CDVs. Those fascinated with early Victorian dress styles and fashions enjoy collecting them, as do those interested in early interior design or antique studio props. Women in 1800s wedding dresses are interesting to modern brides and celebrity albumen prints are popular as well. Some people just collect carte de visites for different hat styles, hair styles, or wild suits. Some love CDV photographs with animals, early bicycles, or interesting architecture.
There’s really no limit to who collects carte de visite photographs. I never imagined I would be interested in them until I began to learn more about their history and the history of the people in them. CDVs, like other forms of early photography, truly are unique and cherishable keepsakes.

How to Best Identify Destination Wedding Photographers
If you are newly engaged and been looking for a destination-wedding-photographer, you have surely heard about them. They sound mysterious, alluring and almost famous just from those three words – destination wedding photographers. But what is a destination wedding photographer and is there any difference between them and someone who is not a destination wedding photographer? I have listed a few points below on the additional skill sets a destination photographer will possess.
- First of all, a destination wedding photographer is someone who will travel with you, either in your own country or abroad to photograph your wedding. With this being the case, most of them will have a valid passport and are familiar with TSA rules governing flights (In the US) to make sure they can bring all of their equipment safely and securely with them.
- Destination photographers are well versed in traveling for business purposes, something that can be difficult and daunting to the uninitiated. Many countries require special permits and visas if you are entering a country for the purpose of work. This experience and knowledge is crucial because foreign countries have and will turn away wedding photographers at customs if they do not have the appropriate permissions and documentation.
- Performing well under adverse conditions is the realm of all wedding photographers. However, traveling for a wedding adds an additional complication – traveling light. A photographer cannot do their job without their equipment and trying to fly a full studio setup is both complicated and expensive. Destination wedding photographers have the adaptability and knowledge with how to do more with less. While some equipment is, of course, necessary, being able to pack lightly while still maintaining a margin of safety for backup cameras, spare batteries and image storage facilities is where the experience, again, really comes thru.
- Destination photographers will not have the luxury, most times, to see the facility before arriving for the wedding. While performing a site survey is crucial, there is rarely the option to purchase a piece of needed equipment to deal with a certain scenario, so creativity, flexibility and experience are very necessary traits to look for in your photographer.
- Many destination wedding locations abroad will require you to use a house wedding photographer as part of your package. In some cases (but certainly not all), the house photographers are only there for a small portion of the wedding and are concentrated on taking very standard and traditional photographs. This may be exactly what you are looking for but, if not, bringing your own photographer with you is an option. Keep in mind the house photographer will still be working and your photographer will likely stay out of their way but still get the style of wedding photography you want.

American Indian

why was the decline of the american indian population so extreme?
in the 15 and 16 hundreds the american indian population decreased by about 25 million. why was the decline so extreme?
to the idiot: inconvient truths…..quit using such words as noble and honnorable. you dont know the meaning of them. you hide behind an avitar only because you are too chicken shit to show your true face. racism is ugly no matta what you have staring back at you in the mirror.
if we were so uncivilized, why is it that some of our standing laws were drawn upon “savage beliefs?”
lil twerps like you find all your “smarts” in schools, thinking that you are more than those around you. guess what? history was written by those who win. and time and time again our government has shown how willing it is to lie and defame in its quest to acheive greatness.
as for the decline of the “American Indian”….its called war. the white man used its diseases as an early form of germ warfare. what better way to wipe out whats in your way to send in something else to do the job for you?!! after that came the advancment of what seamed to be a tidal wave of settlers. it created an unblance to the wildlife, forcing the native people to look towards cattle and the white mans food, again causing so many to be sick and die. why? the armies gave sick animals to the captured natives. they gave rotted meat and bread expecting them to live. they killed many of the “warriors” who they deamed a threat. this also ensured the natives were unable to or have great difficutlies for gathering food for themselves.
Women were gathered to cook and clean for soldiers of the army. many died of the white mans Sexually Transmitted diseases. less women, less babies. no one to carry on.

Crimean War

What were the main effects of the Crimean War in history?
I really need help. I have a document on what I have to do I could not find anything in the trade during the Crimean War or the main effects were the Crimean War. I've researched so that I am not trying to get out of work. If you know of sites that might be useful or something like that would be very grateful.
The Crimean War prevented the imminent collapse of the Ottoman Empire and possible dismemberment Russia. As have access to Russia to the Mediterranean and the territory has increased and the influence in the Middle East and the Balkans, its effects are important. Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole pioneer new treatment techniques and medical practices and organizations to the armed campaign especially in relation to care and treatment of wounded soldiers, another important long-term effect. institutional problems and deficiencies in the UK army as a whole have been made by the Crimean War and the Sepoy Mutiny in India soon after, and this led to a thorough investigation and review of the British reforms army.Known Cardwell and introduced in 1864, this contract is in the British army (all levels) harmful practices more attractive as a career, and ended, as buying commissions and flogging as punishment. Although Russia later backed away from some of the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1856 that ended the war, the fact that warships have been banned from the Black Sea and fortifications and armaments on its shores have been banned have been a major setback for Russia and plans in the region, In addition, Russia has lost territory at the mouth of the Danube and the influence on areas of the Balkans. All this contributed to collectively support the Ottoman Empire, which was survive until the end of the First World War – the Tsarist Russian empire. Another longer-term effects in question Italy.Sardinia have joined the alliance against Russia during the Crimean War, with the hope of French aid to unify Italy against Austria at a later date. Sardinia has received support during the 1859 Italian War Independence, which has a long way to expel Austria Italy and the establishment of a unified, independent Italian.
