What SLR camera should I buy?

I am looking to buy myself my first SLR camera for my Christmas, partly funded by my dad. I am interested in sports photography but I will only shoot at trampolining competitions once or twice a year. In the meantime I want to shoot Nature landscapes and animals. So I will need a camera(and lens) that can perform well at my requirements at a price of £1000 in total.

My thoughts so far are:
Nikon d5000
nikon d200

I am keen on the nikon range because one of my friends recomended the brand as an experienced user.

My plan is to buy a good body that will last a good few years with an average lens to get me started. Then I plan too but a bigger and better lens(looking at the NIKON: 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR) still using the same body.

If you are buying your first SLR, I’d generally recommend the D40 over a more advanced model. While I’m always in favour of buying good quality (it saves money over the long run), it makes sense to go for the D40 to start off with, and then upgrade only once you start hitting its limitations (which, for many people, will be never). It won’t be a wasted expense if you later decide to upgrade because there are places where it doesn’t make much sense to carry a D3 because of the risk it might be stolen or damaged.

You will need to budget for lenses. It’s much better to buy a less expensive camera and spend your budget on buying better quality lenses, than buy an expensive camera and cheapskate by buying non-Nikon or non-Canon lenses. The choice of lenses will have an effect on the quality of your images that you will be able to see.

Nikon D500 would be a good choice with an addition Nikon Wide Angled lens

Wedding photography information?

I am heavy into photography and have been doing it for a while now. I’m an advanced amateur going to be shooting a wedding for my sister in December. It isn’t going to be anything professional and I am not asking her for money. She said she loves my photos and the angles I take and my technique so she wanted me to shoot the wedding. I’ve never done wedding photography before, usually lots of portraits, landscapes, and action shots.

What should I look out for and make sure I do while I’m shooting the wedding?

I have spoken to my sister and she has told me what shots/kind of shots she wants for the wedding overall, so, I will have to go with what she wants for most of the shots. But are there any tips from wedding photographers out there? I am very interested in your insights, thank you in advance.

I’m sure you’ll do great baby, you don’t need anyone’s help or advice. =)

International Schools for Photography?

I live in the united states and am currently looking for some international photography schools. Really doesn’t matter too much on the location. Argentina, London, Paris ect. I am a beginner in photography and am interested in photojournalism, landscape ect. Would like to expand my knowledge of the world and experience other cultures while learning something i love and hope to get into as a profession. Thank you for your time,
Skyler

Britain and Australia has some of the best photography schools (outside the US) in the world. Japan, Italy and Germany has some great schools too. As far as prestige, you cant beat the British Schools, and the selection is awesome! For a easy listing just yahoo or google, and you’ll get an excellent listing with details on course offerings.

Good luck.

Photography?….Jobs…?

I love photography…What kind of job could i get that involves this, like taking pictures of landscape, nature, ect,…i already know you can do weddings but does it pay good?

portrait photographers do stuff like that, they get payed between $26,000-$53,000, but self-employed photographers earn less.

Popular Photography Vs. Shuterbug?

Hi i am an amatuer photographer with a basic canon slr and am into all types of photography from light painting to landscape. I am wanting to subscribe to a photography magazine and was wondering wich one you recomended. Thank You!

Shutterbug is quite great. i love it honestly. pop photo is more about equipment and shutterbug is very eclectic! they’re both good… but in all honesty i say suscribe to shutter bug… because the articles are great! and theres nothing in pop photo you cant get online!

Flash recommendations for Canon Rebel XT?

I am sort of a beginner in photography. I’ve become more attached to photography for over a year now. I’ve mostly taken pictures outdoors, since the area I was from was beautiful for landscape photos. However, I’d like to know what type of flash should I use for indoor photos. By indoors, mostly I mean gigs. Live bands playing in a local club, where the light is dim and sometimes dark. It would be great if I could also get some info on what are the best settings for this type of indoor photography! Thanks!

Any of the fine Canon dedicated flash units made at this time will be perfect. All you have to decide is how powerful a flash you need.

Look at the following units and then decide. Most of the photographers I know who shoot events use the mid-level electronic flash units. While the high end flash units have more power, it is rare that you will need to light out to 60 feet at an event, especially since if you do, everything closer will be over exposed.

This is probably the best flash for your needs, although you will not be using flash when shooting the bands.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/571297-USA/Canon_2805B002_430EX_II_Speedlite_TTL.html

Shooting bands is all about capturing the existing stage lighting and all the colours that make up the scene. A flash will overpower the scene and you will lose the ambiance of the event.
